from Copenhagen and much more!
I would like to introduce my self shortly:
I am a freelance
baroque violinist living in Copenhagen and playing in many baroque-ensembles in
Scandinavia like Concerto Copenhagen,Holmens Baroque-ensemble,Enghave Barok ,Norwegian
Baroque-orchestra as well as I am
a regural member of the french baroque ensemble ”La Sinfonie du Marais”.
You are also
welcome to read my CV and hear some sound examples at my web-site: www.jesenka.com
Today for a start
I would like to show you some of my different instruments :
Viola
Violoncello da
Spalla
Violino piccolo(yeah it is small,very
small indeed!)
violin
Most of you I
belive have seen a violin and viola, but
Violoncello da Spalla and Violino Piccolo are still quite rare. Especially
here in DK!
The ”Violoncello
Da Spalla (shoulder-violoncello)” is a instrument with many names,it was also
called ”Fagottgeige”and”Violoncello Piccolo”and ”Violoncello di
Collo(neck-cello)”in different sources. This special type of instrument was
quite popular in Germany and Italy and it was possible that J.S.Bach wrote his
”Sechs Suonaten Pour le Viola de Basso”(cello-siuites) for this instrument. There are
existing recordings of the Suites by Sigiswald Kuijken (who rediscovered the
instrument),Ryo Terakado and violinmaker and great violinist Dmitry Badiarov. I can reccomend specially the
version of Dmitry Badiarov.
Violino piccolo: This tiny violin is
tuned a small third above normal violin-tuning and J.S.Bach wrote the
Barandenburg Concerto nr.1 with a violino-piccolo solo-part.Leopold Mozart is mentioning this instrument .in his
ViolinschuleThe cantata of D.Buxtehude”Das neugeborne Kinderlein ”has a violino
piccolo part. This instrument has a very special resonant sound with a
”innocent” color .
I hope you enjoyed my first small introducing post.
I will be back next week where I will write about a new fresh danish baroque ensemble "La Lumière du Nord"
